Jason...one of us, man from people, man, not star, real fan of music, man who gave heart on stage to metal music, man with real metal attitude and metal sound, great bass player and great singer...he was the fuel of the greatest metal period ever..the album that opened all doors to heavy metal to become No1 music in whole world that year....Metallica forever!!! This gentleman, despite what he says didn’t deserve a goddamn ounce of hazing that they gave him. If it weren’t for him, they’d have been finished. He carried them throughout the 90’s and they were fools for not utilising his talents more.

Still one of the best interviews. So many of my teenage year questions answered here.

Maaan I just love how animate Jason is. 15:17 for instance when he describes the fucking overload of things around him. :D I love how he also explains the mixing and what you can tell from it. That has made me very self-aware on that as I am the guitar dude. :D I'm trying to put the guitars in their place and give the bass a damn footing and... well, not put the snare quite on the listener's lap like Metallica does. :D I suppose I fail miserably. :D I guess I haven't been listening to this interview very carefully before because it only now struck me that Clif and Jason both left Metallica on the same date. Also, while I'm not even a zit on the guy's face who warms up for the local band compared to Jason, I know that whole thing: let's not distract from the show onstage. And also, who cares because I'M PLAYING, I get that too. :D

I know a lot of people are fond of the band's musical trajectory from St Anger onwards but let's have it right: When Jason left he took a huge part of what made Metallica cool with him. The way he championed other bands by mentioning them in interviews or wearing their gear when Metallica were at their highest is second to none. To us fans, he was always the most approachable, never pulled an ego and he epitomized the "We are Metallica, we are not afraid of anything and we are cooler than all of you" attitude. Can't believe it's gonna be 23 years this September.

Why do feel the uncontrollable urge to slap that ghey betas hat off his head ???? Where do these wanna be fan boys come from ?? It's really sad to see that this stick with glasses and oversized baseball cap swooning over Jason . Jason is a true gentleman for putting up with it .

After watching this I like newstead even more than I did before and I think I lost a little respect for Metallica and James for that matter

Echobrain was in no way a threat to Metallica, this was just a vulgar display of Hetfield's vulnerable narcissism. Good for Jason he left that toxic relationship. Also they never made a decent album after he left, maybe a couple good songs and that's it.

Jason has always been a Stand Up Guy. I had the pleasure of working on the Re-Load album with Electra Records. I always wondered if his having Two older brothers prepared him for with Lars and Hetfield. He took alot of their shit. Jason God Bless You brother.
